A WORD ON MAINTAINING AIRCRAFT

 As an A&P mechanic and an aircraft owner I am always looking for new and/or improved methods and products that help mitigate the wear and tear on our aging fleet of general aviation aircraft. I am looking for something that works as advertised and is affordable.

 Anyone who is familiar with the effects of dirt, grit, grease and oil not to mention exposure to the sun (UV) on plastic windows knows the frustration of applying one of those cleaners or polish products sold in maintenance catalogues. I get a lot of aviation related magazines and ran across a new product that was tested by the person writing the article. The product, called EZ Clear was applied to windows on an older airplane that was tied down out side and had moderate UV damage in the form of haze. The person writing the article was very surprised at the outcome and recommended EZ Clear.

 I called the company and the call was answered by a representative named Christie and after explaining how I ended up on the other end of the phone Christie gave me a quick run down on the company and some of the other products that were offered. Christie also mentioned that EZ Clear was more of a cleaner not a restorative. I decided the price was right and would see for myself.

 After receiving the EZ Clear a friend and fellow airplane owner applied according to the directions on my 1966 Beechcraft (original side windows) and we were amazed. I decided this was too good to be true and would wear off over night.  But what a wonderful surprise; after many local flights and an extended cross country trip with tie downs in Phoenix and Las Vegas (dust sand and grueling sun) plus a trip back to Iowa in a lot of rain and unpleasant conditions, the EZ Clear stood up.
